Pamela Adolphi

Director of Technical Theatre

Gregory Center – Scene Shop

Pamela earned both her B.S. in Speech and M.A. in Professional Communication from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), with a concentration in theatre. She served for ten years (2008-2018) as Technical Director at Milligan University, where she designed lighting, scenery, and costumes for the theatre program. She later returned to ETSU to work with the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts and ETSU Martin Center for the Arts before beginning her second act back at Milligan.

Throughout her career, Pamela has held a variety of leadership and production roles, including Production Manager, Facilities Manager, Director of Technical Services, Box Office Manager, House Manager, and Event Coordinator. In addition to her work in higher education and the performing arts, she serves as a consultant, freelance designer, and standardized patient, collaborating with a diverse range of professionals and students.

Pamela’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that students come first. She strives to create an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative learning environment where every student is encouraged to develop confidence, creativity, and a strong work ethic. Recognizing that theatre is both an academic discipline and a practical art form, she emphasizes hands-on learning experiences that allow students to apply classroom concepts in real-world production settings.

Pamela has taught courses in Stagecraft, Introduction to Theatre, Stage Makeup, Theatrical Design, Advanced Design, and Theatre History. She has also directed and co-directed numerous productions and occasionally steps onto the stage herself, although her motto remains: “I’d rather run the spotlight then stand in it.”

Among her favorite productions are Seascape, Forever Plaid, The Tempest, Eurydice, Godspell, The Odyssey, Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Diary of Anne Frank, Rabbit Hole and Freaky Friday.
