Dr. Jason Bembry is a Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan, where he has been teaching since 2005. He teaches a range of courses, including Intermediate Hebrew, Old Testament Introduction, Old Testament Theology, and The Old Testament Prophetic Tradition. Dr. Bembry also teaches specialized exegesis courses on the Pentateuch, the Deuteronomistic History (Joshua – 2 Kings), the Prophets, and the book of Daniel. Dr. Bembry also teaches Aramaic, Ugaritic, and a course on the Septuagint on a three-year cycle. He has offered a fully online version of Elementary Hebrew since 2008.
Dr. Bembry’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Semitic Studies, Maarav: A Journal for the Study of Northwest Semitic Languages and Literatures, and Theology Today. He has also written book reviews for Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Maarav, Hebrew Studies Journal, Journal of Near Eastern Studies, and Stone-Campbell Journal. His first book, Yahweh’s Coming of Age (Eisenbrauns 2011), explores the depiction of God as the “Ancient of Days” in Daniel 7. In 2018, he published Walking in the Prophetic Tradition: Models of Speaking Truth and Acting in Love for Everyday People.
Dr. Bembry’s ministry experience includes serving on a Czech Mission Team in Litomerice, Czech Republic, where he participates in outreach ministry. His early ministry work was in Prague, Czech Republic, where he served with missionaries evangelizing among college students. Additionally, while living in Boston, he worked as a college minister within a local church, serving numerous schools in the area.
