Youth Intern

We are a 165 year old United Methodist Church, and we have been worshipping together in the Tree Streets of Johnson City for almost 100 years. Our congregations is full of families and friends. From a variety of backgrounds and life experiences our members have come together to grow in their faith and to serve the community around them. Over the past 15 years a desire to serve the youth and children of our community (not just our church families) has been a pillar of church’s identity.

We are known for our beautiful sanctuary, wonderful musicians and excellent preschool. We are known for friendly folks. We are known for our food pantry and our clothing closet that operate every month. We are also known for for having an excellent Early Learning Center and hosting Camp I. The Community every Summer.

Reports to: Director of Youth Ministry

First UMC Johnson City is seeking a part-time Youth Intern. The Youth Ministries Intern will receive valuable ministry experience being mentored by and accountable to the Director of Youth Ministry and by assisting in holistic ministry to meet spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs of a diverse group of young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Essential Functions:

• Function in a cooperative basis with other staff members and support the various aspects of First United Methodist Church programs.
• Provide support to comprehensive youth ministry program including: regularly scheduled youth gatherings, special events, retreats, and trips.
• Be available to drive or ride church vans for age-level ministries.
• Routinely assist in planning and implementation of programs, activities, and events.
• Offer support, guidance, counseling, and encouragement to youth members, inactive youth, unchurched youth, community youth, and their families.

Other Responsibilities:

• Attend meetings with staff and church committees as needed.
• Participate in necessary trainings and safety protocols.
• Meet with the Director of Youth Ministry monthly for check-ins, collaboration, and mentoring.
• Other duties as requested.
