What to Expect as a PA Preceptor
Preceptors are paired with PA students during six-week clinical rotations across a variety of specialties. As an expert in your field, you will serve as a role model and educator, teaching students the clinical competencies and practical skills necessary to provide meaningful, quality care in your specialty. This is a hands-on educational experience that is both rewarding and meaningful. Our Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Site Manager will support you throughout the rotation and serve as your primary contacts. At the end of each rotation, you will complete a brief electronic evaluation of the student’s clinical performance, which helps us ensure our students are meeting program competencies.
Our Rotation Structure
The clinical phase includes seven six-week core rotations and one elective rotation. Each rotation requires approximately 40 hours per week of clinical engagement. Our core rotation specialties are:
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Emergency Medicine
- General Surgery
- Pediatrics
- Behavioral Medicine
- Women’s Health
- Elective: Students Students may complete their elective rotation in any clinical specialty, providing flexibility for diverse learning experiences and career exploration.

We welcome physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with clinical expertise and a commitment to education. Whether you work in primary care, acute care, specialty practices, or hospital settings, we have opportunities for preceptors at diverse practice sites.
