MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 14, 2012) — Milligan College will host a panel discussion on the relevance of the Stone-Campbell movement on Tuesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
The Webb Symposium, titled “Stone-Campbell Perspectives,” honors Dr. Henry Webb, a retired professor who taught Bible at Milligan for more than 40 years. The symposium will be moderated by Dr. Robert Wetzel, professor-at-large at Milligan and former president of Emmanuel Christian Seminary and the World Convention.
The Stone-Campbell movement of the 19th century was a religious community committed to the restoration of New Testament Christianity and the unity of all believers. Milligan maintains an active relationship with the churches that emerged from this movement.
As moderator, Wetzel will provide a brief history of the Stone-Campbell movement and its importance to Milligan. He also will pose questions to the panelists, including Dr. Tim Wallingford, senior minister at First Christian Church in Johnson City, Tenn., and Stephen Feryus, a senior Bible major from Fallston, Md.
Wallingford will address the relevance of the Stone-Campbell movement to the church today. Feryus will continue the discussion with a look at the importance of the movement to the future of the church.
