MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 24, 2014) — Milligan College’s Awards Chapel on Thursday, April 24, was a special day for many Milligan students who were honored for their accomplishments this past year. More than 60 awards and scholarships were announced by the faculty and administration during the annual ceremony.
Nate Andrew, a senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., received the year’s most distinguished award, the Ivor Jones Outstanding Senior Award. Andrew also earned the Business Administration Award and the Psychology Award and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
The Ivor Jones Outstanding Senior Award recipient is nominated by the faculty. The award is presented each year to a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding performance in service to the college, potential for continuing the objectives of the college, academic record and participation in college life.
Andrew will graduate May 10 with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and business administration.

The Dennis Bratton Servant Leadership Award was presented to Tiffany Brown, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy student from Johnson City.
In the area of biblical learning, Kaitlyn Harville of Morristown earned the Earl R. Stuckenbruck Award for Excellence in Greek. Sarah Underwood of Jonesborough, Tenn., received the Outstanding Student Scholarship Award for Biblical Learning.
Elizabeth Gentry of Johnson City earned the Stone-Campbell Promising Scholar Award and the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award. She also was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
In the business area, Anna McLeod of Jonesborough was presented with the Bill Rhoades Outstanding Accounting Student Scholarship. David Trent of Johnson City was presented with the Computer Information Systems Award (mobile). Caleb McNeese of Johnson City earned the Richard Phillips Outstanding Legal Studies Student Scholarship.
In the education area, the Delta Kappa Gamma Outstanding Teaching Award was presented to Jennifer Berry Frazier of Johnson City. Jennifer Green of Kingsport earned the Undergraduate Student Teaching Award in Early Childhood, while the Human Performance and Exercise Science PE Award was presented to Brooke White of Chuckey.
In the humane learning area, Natalie Bohin of Unicoi earned the French Award, while Lucy Gaudiano of Johnson City earned the Spanish Award. The Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Humane Learning was presented to Martha Wells of Greeneville.
Celeste Carpenter of Johnson City earned the Senior Nursing Award.
The Tri-Cities Society of Professional Journalists Scholarship was presented to Amber Plumer of Elizabethton.
In music, Ben Davenport of Rogersville earned the Concert Choir Award and the National Association for Music Education Collegiate Chapter Award. Laura Mixon of Kingsport received the Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Music. The Women’s Chorale Award went to Emily May of Elizabethton.
In the area of scientific learning, Jeremy Greer of Johnson City earned the Biology Award and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Thomas Wampler of Milligan College earned the Chemistry Award. The Lone L. Sisk Award went to Sterling Herron of Butler. The Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Scientific Learning was presented to Lindsey Kyker of Jonesborough.
In the area of social learning, Stephen Joiner of Mountain City earned the Political Science Award and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Amanda Sheppard of Elizabethton earned the Public Leadership and Service Award.
Andrew Torok of Johnson City earned the Greer-Mahan Scholarship, while Haven Sanders of Gray was presented with the Jeremy S. Duncan Memorial Scholarship.
Other local students named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges included: Hannah Baird of Fall Branch, Lindsey Campbell of Mountain City, Meghan Wymer Hall of Johnson City, Nathan Hall of Johnson City, Danielle Moore of Unicoi and Brittany Robinson of Elizabethton.

Receiving awards from Milligan’s Board of Trustees/Board of Advisors was Anneke Snyder of Olmito, Texas, who was named Outstanding Academic Student. In addition, Snyder was presented with the English and History awards, and she was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Other Board of Trustees/Board of Advisors award winners were Kayla Kelly of Ooltewah, Tenn., who was named Outstanding Female Athlete, and Fitzroy Harris of Montego Bay, Jamaica, named the Outstanding Male Athlete. In addition, Harris was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
In the area of biblical learning, Zach MacLellan of Chino, Calif., earned the Award for Outstanding Promise in Christian Education. He also earned the Student Government Association Distinguished Service Award.
Nathan Cachiaras of Fallston, Md., earned the Fred and Esther Meding Honorary Award for Biblical Studies.
In the business area, Elizabeth O’Neill of Southfield, Mich., earned the Computer Information Systems Award. Shannon Jewett of Cary, N.C., was presented with the Eugene P. Price Excellence in Business Studies Award. The Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Business went to Brittany Shaffer of Knoxville, Tenn.
The Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Education was presented to Amanda Chambers of Knoxville. Other education awards included the Paul Clark Teacher Education Award, presented to Jessica Williams of McCoy, Va.; the Undergraduate Student Teaching Award (Elementary), presented to Lindsay Ange of Keswick, Va.; the Undergraduate Student Teaching Award (Secondary), presented to Chancli Connatser of Maryville, Tenn.; and the Human Performance and Exercise Science Award (Exercise Science), presented to Heather Espeland of Bel Air, Md. Connatser also earned the Mathematics Award.
In the humane learning area, Matthew Rees of Redford, Mich., earned the German Award, while Gabriel Rees, also of Redford, earned the Humanities Award.
The Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Nursing went to Alexa Bigl of Appomattox, Va.
In communications, the Johnson City Press Tom Hodge Journalism Scholarship was awarded to Brooke Whitley of Polkton, N.C. Hillary Hughes of Savannah, Ga., earned the Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Communication.
Micah Stephens of Knoxville received the Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Performing and Visual Arts.
Other fine arts awards included co-recipients of the Senior Fine Arts Award—Kate Handzlik of Chalfont, Penn., and Meaghan Roland of Lexington, Ky. Handzlik also was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Andrew Dennis of Cincinnati, Ohio, earned the Orchestra Award.
In the area of scientific learning, Chelsea Brunsman of Beavercreek, Ohio, earned the Dick Lura Honorary Pre-Med Award.
Brittany Branker of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Scholarship Award in Social Learning. She also received the Sociology Award.
The Student Development Leadership Award was presented to Branden Jones of West Point, Ga.
In addition, the following students received scholarships: Jessica Reinhardt of Okeana, Ohio (Gabrielle R. Jones Memorial Scholarship); Emilee Rogers of New Port Richey, Fla. (Guy and Rhea Oakes Scholarship Grant); and Heidi Nyman of Mill Hall, Pa. (Wendy I. Walstrom Memorial Scholarship).
Other students named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges include Amerrica Duggan of Maryville, Tenn.; Sydney Franklin of Louisville, Ky.; Caleb Friddell of Ooltewah, Tenn.; Hannah Mays of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Rachel McClaugherty of Glendora, Calif.; Morgan Poff of Roanoke, Va.; and Beattie Renn of Buckeystown, Md.
