MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Dec. 20, 2011) — The Milligan College music department donated $3,255, the proceeds of its Dec. 11 community Christmas concert, to the Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House in Johnson City, Tenn.
Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of Milligan’s music department, presented the check this week to Pam Smith, administrative assistant with Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House Charities Inc.
With more than 1,100 people in attendance, Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel was full for the concert. The annual concert is free, but the college collects a suggested $5 donation to benefit a different organization each year.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children throughout the Southern Appalachian region. Located next to Johnson City Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald house has 14,000 square feet, including 10 bedrooms and private bathrooms. The space provides a safe haven for children and families of children, as well as a place where guests can find support from other families in similar circumstances.
“The Milligan Christmas Concert is our gift to the community, so we are pleased that the proceeds benefit an organization that serves the community so well,” Brown said.
