Summer Arts Camp at Milligan goes wild

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (June 9, 2010) — Children interested in the arts are invited to a wild week of fun and learning at the annual Summer Arts Camp at Milligan College to be held June 28-July 2.

“Art in the Wild,” this year’s theme for the Summer Arts Camp, is designed for children ages 7 to 13. Participants will go on a nature hunt through the arts, discovering wildlife hidden in art, music, literature, drama and more. They will create nature crafts and experience wildlife up close.

The camp is held on the Milligan campus each day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and culminates with a closing program Friday, July 2, at 3:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel.

Now in its 19th year, the Summer Arts Camp is directed by Milligan alumnus Keith Hertzog, a teacher at Woodland Elementary School. Hertzog and Carlene Eastridge, camp coordinator and owner of Eastridge Academy of Music, join teachers from throughout the region each summer to educate students about the arts and encourage them to explore their unique gifts and ideas in a fun, Christian environment.

“The Summer Arts Camp at Milligan is the area’s original arts-in-the-summer day camp,” Eastridge said. “We have sessions in art, drama, music, movement and creative writing, and we end the day with swimming in Milligan’s indoor pool. This camp has it all.”

The cost for the camp is $210, which includes lunch each day in Milligan’s McCormick Dining Center. The buffet lunch consists of a hot bar, salads, sandwiches, desserts and beverages. Discounted rates are available for children who choose to bring their own lunch and for additional siblings. For more information about the camp or to download a registration form, visit www.milligan.edu/summerarts, or contact Carlene Eastridge at 423.928.7600.
