MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 26, 2010) — Eleven Milligan College students received awards for their art and photography during the college’s 2010 Juried Art Exhibit.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is on display in Milligan’s Art Gallery, located in the lower level of Derthick Hall, through Saturday, May 1.
Students honored with awards of excellence include Kelsey Ellis, a sophomore from Bristol, Tenn.; Holly English, a freshman from Kingsport, Tenn.; Jake Merrick, a senior from Jonesborough, Tenn.; Morgan Simmons, a sophomore from Ashburn, Va.; and Brennan Tracy, a junior from Oblong, Ill. Merrick earned two awards of excellence.
Students honored with awards of merit include Ashley Fennell, a junior from North Baltimore, Ohio; Daniel Jones, a sophomore from Columbus, Ind.; Michael Kaal, a senior from Gilbert, Ariz.; Travis Phillips, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C.; Cara Beth Quisenberry, a sophomore from Johnson City, Tenn.; and Emma Rees, a sophomore from Redford, Mich. Quisenberry earned two merit awards.
Tom Root, a local portrait artist and painter, served as the juror. In addition to his portrait work, Root is also a songwriter, musician and an author of children’s stories. He studied drawing and painting at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Conn., and at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla.
The Milligan exhibit features 40 entries, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs and digital design projects.
