MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 19, 2010)- Milligan College students will present a series of one act plays and films during the college’s annual One Act Plays and Film Festival, April 26-30. The Festival begins at 6 p.m. each evening in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts and is free and open to the public.
The festival, now in its 24th year, was started by Richard Major, professor of theater at Milligan, to energize the theater program and provide hands-on theater experience for his students.
“One Acts are a way for students to participate in our theatre program without the time commitment that is required of actors in a main stage production at Milligan,” Major said.
This year’s festivities include a special bonus on Monday, April 26, with an original production of Deborah DeGeorge Harbin’s play, “Hypochondria.” Harbin, a member of Milligan’s staff, will direct the play. Also on Monday, there will be a production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” directed by senior Melanie Yodkins. This production, presented in German, is the brainchild of Dr. Ted Thomas and his Intermediate German class.
A total of eight student-directed one act plays will be presented April 27-29. In addition to the eight directors, this year’s festival includes 28 actors and eight stage managers.
The film festival on April 30 features four student-directed short films. This year’s films are produced by James Butcher, Brad Eastridge, Andrew Green and Aaron Jones.
