Focus on the Family manager joins Milligan staff Young retiring after 11 years of service

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 24, 2010) – Milligan College welcomes Gary Alan Taylor to the Institutional Advancement staff as assistant to the president and major gift officer. He will replace Bob Young, who is retiring from his full-time role in June after 11 years of service to Milligan.

Taylor comes to Milligan from Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colo. He most recently served as the senior manager for Focus on the Family’s Christian worldview department, where he coordinated “The Truth Project,” a DVD-based Christian worldview curriculum.

He also launched the TrueU Program, an intensive apologetics curriculum designed to strengthen faith in college-bound teens. Prior to serving in the Christian worldview department, Taylor served as the associate director of admissions for the Focus on the Family Institute.

Before his nine-year tenure at Focus on the Family, Taylor spent seven years working in the admissions office at Milligan. He has also served as an affiliate faculty member in the history department at Colorado Christian University.

Taylor is a 1994 graduate of Milligan. He also holds a master’s degree from East Tennessee State University and has done doctoral work at the University of Tennessee.

“We are pleased to welcome Gary Alan back to Milligan,” said Dr. Bill Greer, vice president for institutional advancement at Milligan. “He brings experience and a strong commitment to Milligan’s mission.”

Taylor began his work at Milligan in February.

Young came to Milligan in 1998, after teaching history and coaching for more than 30 years. He was presented Milligan’s highest honor, the Fide et Amore award, in 2007.

“Bob is a treasured member of the Institutional Advancement team and has been a personal inspiration to all of us,” Greer said. “His love for Milligan College is deep and manifests itself in the way he cares for the many friends of Milligan that he knows and loves.

“I am grateful that Bob will continue to help us on a part-time basis, working closely with a number of the college’s alumni and friends.”
