Milligan welcomes alumni, friends to Homecoming Oct. 22-23


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 14, 2010) — Alumni and friends of Milligan College will return to campus for the college’s Homecoming festivities, Oct. 22-23. The weekend includes a variety of activities, ranging from a play to the annual parade and fall festival.

A highlight each year is the annual Associated Ladies for Milligan (ALM) Scholarship 5K Run/2.5K Walk on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m. This event is sponsored by Saratoga Technologies and WorkSpace Interiors. Participants will convene at Derthick Hall. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female in each age group. The registration fee is $15 and the proceeds benefit student scholarships at Milligan.

Another main attraction is Milligan’s production of “The Curious Savage,” to be performed Oct. 21, 22 and 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts. The play by John Patrick is produced and directed by Milligan theater professor Richard Major, with scenic and lighting design by Pamela Adolphi. It is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.

Several alumni and friends will be honored Friday evening at the annual “Celebrate Milligan!” dinner. Cal Wilson Jr. (’70) will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The Hardin “Spirit of Milligan” award will be given to Ed McKinney. Dee Ledermann England (’76), Brian Jobe (’95) and Ken Oosting II (’83) will be honored with the Professional Excellence Award. Dustin Price (’05) and Andrea Henriott Breece (’04) will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Also being recognized for the Heritage Award this year is the Clem family, including Bill Clem (’69) and Carolyn Clem Nipper (’65). The awards dinner will be held in the McCormick Dining Center at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s events include the annual alumni vs. students flag football game at 9:30 a.m. at Milligan’s Anglin Field. The winners will march with their trophy in the 11th annual Homecoming Parade at 2 p.m. The parade route will follow Blowers Boulevard, the main road through campus. A “Fall Festival,” complete with inflatable attractions and live music, will be held after the parade from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Derthick Lawn.

The festivities will conclude Saturday with a coffee house concert featuring the Christian folk duo Alathea performing at Milligan’s McMahan Student Center at 8 p.m.

All meal events, theater performances and the walk/run are ticketed events. All others are free and open to the public.

The Alumni Office asks that all alumni register in Milligan College’s Gregory Center on Friday, Oct. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. or Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.
