MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2010) — “Self Insufficiency,” a photography exhibit by Milligan College senior Stephanie Wilson, opens Sunday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Milligan Art Gallery, located in the lower level of Derthick Hall. The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, Oct. 31. It is free and open to the public.
Wilson, a native of Paradise, Calif., is currently completing a fine arts degree in photography. Her exhibit consists of photographs taken throughout her college career that celebrate the many connections between individuals.
“From the time we are toddlers we are told that we are special, that no one is exactly the same. We are all different. This is true, but it is also true that we are all alike. We share a human experience,” said Wilson. “I want to emphasize that unless we rely on others, no one can rely on us. By depending on others, our own strength is solidified.”
In the past four years, Wilson has utilized her photography skills to serve in mentoring programs with under-resourced children. She has enjoyed her work with these children and hopes to pursue similar opportunities following graduation.
