MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (November 18, 2009) — Storytelling takes center stage on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Milligan College’s second annual “Tales from Buffalo Creek.” The event begins at 7 p.m. in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts and is free and open to the public.
The presentation will feature a variety of story styles from students in Milligan’s Introduction to Storytelling course and from guest storyteller Rebecca Alexander.
Alexander is a professional storyteller from East Tennessee. She is a member of the National Storytelling Foundation, East Tennessee State University Tale Tellers and Network of Biblical Storytellers. She performs regularly with the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild. Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree from Milligan and a master of education degree in storytelling from ETSU.
“I think this is going to be a wonderful event,” said Dr. Bruce Montgomery, professor of communications at Milligan. “The students are very talented and are working very hard for this to be an evening to remember.”
The stories will recount memorable experiences, some humorous others nostalgic. From the touching tale of a first kiss to an amusing narrative of a night when nothing goes right, the storytellers will take the audience on a journey with them — through laughter and tears, always entertaining.
“I think our class has a lot of talented storytellers, and the event will be a fun-filled night both for us storytellers and for those who come to listen,” said Andrew Davis, a Milligan senior.
