MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (June 3, 2009) — Lights, camera, action! This week, June 1 through 5, the annual Summer Arts Camp at Milligan College has gone Hollywood.
Themed “Reel Art,” the camp’s 100 participants, ages 7 to 14, are exploring how art, music, literature, drama and choreography impact the big screen.
“My favorite part of the camp is drama,” said Katie Nipper, an 8-year-old participant from Johnson City, Tenn. “We’re learning a song and a dance where we get to be corn or cattle or trees. It’s fun!”
Now in its 18th year, the Summer Arts Camp is directed by Milligan alumnus Keith Hertzog, a teacher at Woodland Elementary School. Hertzog along with Charlene Eastridge, camp coordinator and owner of Eastridge Academy of Music, join teachers from throughout the region each summer to educate students about the arts and encourage them to explore their unique gifts and ideas in a fun, Christian environment. This year Broadway actor Dominic Aquilino is assisting the group.
The Summer Arts Camp will culminate with a special performance showcasing the talents and newly learned skills of camp participants. The show will be held Friday, June 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel on the campus of Milligan College. The event is free and open to the public.
