Author and storyteller Steven James to teach class at Milligan


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 23, 2009) – Bestselling author and storyteller Steven James will bring his art to the classroom during May-Term, May 11-29, at Milligan College to teach a class entitled, “The Essence of Story: Both Written and Told.”

“This class will explore and demystify the structure and uniqueness of story as a vehicle for conveying truth,” said Dr. Bruce Montgomery, professor of communications at Milligan.

According to Montgomery, emphasis will be placed on the craft of storytelling, whether oral or written, so that the storyteller can develop skills in the areas of character development, flow, pace, casual relationship of events, and the development of meaningful narrative discovery.

James is one of the nation’s most innovative storytellers. He has written more than 20 books and is a full-time speaker, having appeared more than 1,500 times throughout North America, Europe and Asia since 1996. With a master’s degree in storytelling, James shares his unique blend of drama, comedy and inspirational storytelling at events across the country.

James’ debut novel of psychological suspense, “ The Pawn ,” reached #10 on the CBA fiction bestsellers list and was a finalist for the 2008 Christy Awards. Additionally, he has written numerous critically acclaimed nonfiction books and hundreds of articles and stories that have appeared in more than 80 different publications.
