Milligan concert choir to perform with Symphony of the Mountains


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 31, 2009) – In a special spring celebration, The Milligan College Concert Choir will perform with the Symphony of the Mountains on April 4, at 8 p.m. The concert will be held at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol, Tenn.

Performance pieces will include Bach’s G minor Fugue, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 and Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass.” In addition to the vocals of the Milligan choir, the Voices of the Mountains will perform under the direction of W. Patrick Flannagan.

The Milligan Concert Choir is under the direction of John Wakefield, associate professor of music at Milligan. Wakefield is a veteran of many years as a choral conductor in Illinois, California and Ohio. He is active in the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Church Music Conference, and The Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

The Milligan choir upholds a long tradition as an outstanding college choir. At the invitation of the President, the choir has sung at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, and toured throughout England, with special performances in Coventry Cathedral and in the Civic Centre of the City of Birmingham.
