MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 26, 2009) – Milligan College will recognize local leaders who have demonstrated servant leadership in their careers and community at the college’s annual Leaders in Christian Service program on Tuesday, April 7, at 11 a.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.
“The purpose of this program is to provide examples of people who are doing an outstanding job of integrating their faith with their profession,” said Milligan President Donald R. Jeanes. “We see in these individuals wonderful examples of what servant leadership is all about, and what it can look like on a daily basis in a variety of professions.”
This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Nancy Dishner, director of scholarship and leadership training for the Niswonger Foundation. Dishner has been with the Niswonger Foundation since January 2007. She previously served as vice provost for enrollment services and director of the Roan Scholars Leadership Program at East Tennessee State University. Dishner holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in supervision and administration and a doctorate in administration from ETSU.
Dishner, a higher education consultant and motivational speaker, served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce for Johnson City/ Jonesborough/ Washington County, founding and chairing the Chamber’s Partners in Education program. She also served on the Johnson City Public Building Authority as chair of the Public Relations Committee and secretary/treasurer. Dishner has presented at national and international conferences addressing topics of quality service, student success, student recruitment and organizational culture.
The 2009 Leaders in Christian Service honorees include:
Dr. Ronald Blackmore, Johnson City, serves as a physician for Blue Ridge Family Medicine. He attends First Christian Church in Johnson City.
Bob Cantler, Greeneville, is the general manager of General Morgan Inn in Greeneville. He attends Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
Joel Conger, Jonesborough, is the owner of Mauk’s of Jonesborough. He attends Jonesborough United Methodist Church in Jonesborough.
Patricia Holtsclaw, Elizabethton, serves as president of Mountain States Foundation. She attends Valley Forge Christian Church in Elizabethton.
Stella Gudger, Rogersville, serves as president of Price Public Community Center. She attends Hasson Street Christian Church in Rogersville.
Terry and Patty Muse, Johnson City, serve as financial advisor and office manager for New York Life. They attend Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
Dr. Connie Pennington, Johnson City, is a physician for Pennington Colon and Rectal Associates. She attends Grace Fellowship in Johnson City.
Laura Steel Woods, Kingsport, serves as an attorney with Hunter, Smith and Davis. She attends Blountville United Methodist Church in Blountville.
