MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 20, 2009) – Tickets are on sale now for Milligan College’s spring theatre production, “Under Milk Wood,” by Dylan Thomas. The show will run March 26-28 in Milligan’s new Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts at 7:30 p.m.
Born in 1914 in Uplands, Swansea, Thomas wrote his first poems before the age of 11. His first published work consisted of 18 poems released when he was only 19 years old. “Under Milk Wood” is a faithful rendition of his last major poem.
The show is a play for voices and will be presented as reader’s theatre. It affectionately examines the day-to-day life of the inhabitants of a small Welsh fishing village. The voices of 60 very distinctive characters help paint affectionate portraits of the seaside people Thomas knew so well. Each cast member will perform multiple characters throughout the play.
Serving as director for the production is Jonesborough Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Kathleen Buttolph. Buttolph holds bachelor’s degrees in both theatre and history from Emory & Henry College (Va.). She has worked with JRT since 2004.
Pam Adolphi is assisting as scenic/lighting designer as well as costume consultant. Adolphi, who joined Milligan’s theater department last fall, holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Tennessee State University.
Members of the cast include: Katie Aigner of Ferrum, Va.; Daniel Banks and Katie Purchase of Elizabethton; Laci Black and Timothy Laurio of Jonesborough; Bri Curtis and Melanie Richards of Knoxville; Sarah Green of Bristol, Va.; Caleb Hughes of Christiansburg, Va.; Hannah Hughes of Bluff City; B.J. Krug of Milligan College; Will McVey of Portales, N.M.; Dan Ott of Wooster, Ohio; Brennan Tracy of Oblong, Ill.; Seth Woods of Fitchburg, Mass.; and Melanie Yodkins of Burlington, Conn. Brandon Jones serves as stage manager and sound operator. Abby Banks of Elizabethton will serve as the lighting operator.
Tickets for each performance are $5 for general admission and $3 for students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Milligan College Bookstore, 423.461.8733, or at the door each night of the performance.
