MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 20, 2009) – The East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Band, under the direction of Raymond McLain, will perform at Milligan College on Tuesday, March 31, at 11 a.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. Both performances will be held in Seeger Memorial Chapel.
ETSU’s Bluegrass program began in 1982 with the vision of founder Jack Tottle. Since then, ETSU students have performed worldwide, including the Moscow Folk Arts Festival in Russia, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., the Smithsonian Institution’s National Folk Life Festival, the International Bluegrass Music Association awards show, NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and a variety of venues in Japan, including the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.
McLain’s professional music career began in 1969, when his family launched their weekly television series in Hazard, Ky. A highly respected multi-instrumentalist and an exciting onstage performer, he is among the most well-traveled musicians in his field, having performed in 63 different countries. He has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry. He continues to tour and record with Canadian harmonica innovator, Mike Stevens.
