MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 21, 2009) — Local educators will soon have an opportunity to learn about the moon, Earth and Mars from the space experts, NASA.
NASA Aerospace Education Services, Huntsville, Ala., in partnership with Milligan College, invites education students and classroom teachers of all levels to attend a free workshop showcasing innovative teaching methods related to studying space. Sponsored by Milligan’s education department, the “Earth, Moon, Mars” workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Milligan’s new Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts.
Teachers will learn about free materials available for use in the classroom and activities which relate the space program to all subjects and levels. NASA materials will be on display.
“We know that for teachers it is critical to align instruction with curriculum standards,” said Dr. Tausha Clay, assistant professor of education at Milligan. “Through this workshop teachers will experience how to present NASA educational materials aligned to TN education standards.”
Leading the workshop is Dr. Wil Robertson, a NASA education specialist with over 20 years of experience in bringing the excitement of space exploration to classrooms around the country.
Robertson holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a master’s degree in education from Oklahoma State University and an Ed.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed additional post graduate work at Middle Tennessee State University, University of Idaho of Moscow and at East Tennessee State University. In addition to his work with NASA, Robertson also is employed by Penn State’s NASA to the Schools program.
