Moore to speak at Milligan service day

Campus to spend afternoon serving the local community

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 15, 2009) —Dr. Anthony Moore, professor of education and assistant to the president for diversity and cultural competency at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU), will speak at Milligan College on Tuesday, Jan. 20, as part of the college’s annual service day to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In lieu of classes on Tuesday, the campus will attend an 10:30 a.m. convocation and reflection service in Seeger Memorial Chapel with Moore and then spend the afternoon in service to the local community. Students will volunteer at the Johnson City Animal Shelter, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs of Johnson City and Elizabethton, Ronald McDonald House, Hands On! Museum, and various elementary schools and churches.

“This day of service is part of Milligan’s ongoing dedication to serving others. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and dreams reflect Milligan’s mission of servant leadership and it is appropriate for us to dedicate ourselves to serving those around us,” said Beth Anderson, director of Milligan College’s Institute for Servant Leadership.

Moore, who founded Performance Leadership Group (PLG), a non-profit education, leadership and business development consulting firm, is a well sought after motivational speaker and workshop facilitator who has consulted locally, nationally and internationally with universities, school districts, churches, businesses and other organizations. He has developed numerous workshops, university level classes and seminars in the areas of educational leadership, character education, diversity and culture, and more. While visiting Milligan, he also will conduct a faculty workshop entitled, “Accommodation or Assimilation: Making Christian Campuses Welcoming to Students of Color.”

Moore has received numerous citations and awards including the Carry the Torch alumni award from MNU, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and the Diversity Makes the Difference Community Award by the City of Olathe Human Relations Commission.
