MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 2, 2025) — It is a Wonderful Wednesday for students at Milligan University. Today, April 2, the university celebrates its most beloved tradition.

Each year, this holiday allows students to take a mental break and celebrate as a community before the final push to the end of the semester.

This year’s theme is “The Wonderful Wednesday of Oz.”

“The Milligan tradition of Wonderful Wednesday goes beyond the borders of our campus,” said Juan Villalba, director of campus activities. “Before joining Milligan’s campus community, I heard stories about the most wonderful day of the year. The campus activities team has worked hard to create a magical theme that captures the fun and excitement of the land of Oz, and they have brought it to life here on this Wonderful Wednesday of Oz.”

Classes for traditional undergraduates have been canceled today, and a variety of outdoor social activities have been planned for the university’s annual surprise holiday.

A veil of secrecy surrounds the exact date and theme of the surprise holiday each year. While Milligan has continued this tradition every year since 1969, the holiday does not always fall on a Wednesday.

Milligan’s Campus Activities Board plans the day’s events. Many events are scheduled throughout the day, weather permitting.

Events include:
· Brunch at the McCormick Dining Center in Sutton Hall
· Scavenger hunt across the main campus
· Dodgeball tournament near Pardee Lawn
· Inflatables on the Mary Sword Commons
· Water slide at Buffalo Creek
· Food trucks in the Hardin parking lot
· Volleyball and Kona Ice at Burleson Court
· Bonfire and s’mores at Hart Hall Courtyard
· Fireworks in the evening
