Milligan & Emmanuel hold teen leadership conference

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 6, 2004) — Teens with an interest in exploring their vocational interests as a ministry are invited to Youth in Ministry’s weeklong summer conference at Milligan College, July 26-31.  The Big Picture Teen Leadership Conference provides workshops for those interested in teaching, media, counseling, drama, worship, preaching, missions and creative arts.

“Many young people today are asking, ‘What will I do with my life?’ ‘What are my gifts and skills?’ ‘Where do I fit in the kingdom of God?’ and ‘Would God call me into full time ministry?’” said Phyllis Fox, director of YiM. “We explore those questions and help teens find answers at the Big Picture Conference.”

The conference is for high schools students graduating in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Deadline for applications is May 14. Registration scholarships are available to attend the conference.

In addition to ministry skills workshops, the Big Picture Conference involves life discovery assessments, accountability groups, worship services and hands-on ministry opportunities with local ministers and professionals who are working in churches and benevolent organizations. By the end of the week, teens develop a personal action plan to help guide their future decisions and vocational choices.

Curtis Booher, student minister at Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, Tenn., is dean of the Big Picture Student Leadership Conference. Other conference leaders and counselors include youth and student ministers from churches in the Southeast, as well as faculty from both Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion.

”Our mission is for The Big Picture to be a week that will change teens’ lives and help guide their futures.  Forty percent of last year’s conference attendees made vocational ministry decisions,” said Fox.

YiM has led workshops and seminars throughout the region and eastern U.S. to help teens identify their unique calling in life. This summer, YiM will be the coordinator and co-sponsor of the North American Christian Convention (NACC) Teen Convention, held in Phoenix, Ariz.,July 5-8.

YiM is a partnership of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, Tenn.
