MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2010) — The Milligan College Theatre for Young Audiences will present “Once Upon a Time” on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.
“Once Upon a Time” consists of adaptations of five familiar children’s stories including “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “The Gingerbread Man,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Ugly Duckling.”
Milligan Theatre for Young Audiences is a class at Milligan and the name of the theater troupe. The students enrolled in the class perform original plays for audiences at area schools. This fall, they will perform “Once Upon a Time” in 10 local elementary schools. They are staging the Dec. 9 Milligan performance for homeschool students and their parents.
“Over the years, we’ve performed in 200 different schools, in front of 185,000 children,” said Professor Richard Major, who created the Milligan Theatre for Young Audiences more than 20 years ago. “For me, there’s nothing more pleasing than hearing 300 kids laugh at once. It’s music and it brings out the kid in me.”
