Alena Carhart is a multifaceted soprano and educator who serves as an adjunct instructor in applied voice and musical theatre at Milligan. She holds both a Masters and Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Delaware School of Music where she studied under the tutelage of world renowned pedagogue, Dr. Noel Archambeault. Her love for the performing arts began with dance and theater but once she found singing, she ditched the ballet shoes for a microphone. Raised in Severna Park, Maryland, she performed in an array of shows ranging from musicals to rock shows to choral concerts. Thus, led to her love of singing in all styles of music and to become a passionate educator. As an educator, she believes that music serves as a way of sharing our gifts with the community and illustrating our faith.
As a voice instructor, she has taught voice lessons in musical theater, classical, opera, pop, and rock for numerous years. She is a firm believer in cross-training her singers so they are versatile and ready for any auditions. Throughout her lessons, she utilizes positive psychology techniques to instill a warm and welcoming environment for her students. Alumni of her voice studio have gone on to perform in summer programs such as Musiktheater Bavaria in Germany, Fordham Musical Theater institute in New York, and numerous roles in community theaters throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
Her most recent endeavors on the stage include performances with the University of Delaware Lyric Theatre, where she has performed in and has served on the production team for numerous musicals, cabarets and operas. With the company, she had the honor of debuting the role of “Aphrodite” in Penelope and the Geese by Milica Paranosic and Cheri Magid for its international debut in Athens, Greece. Other notable roles with the company include “Doralee” in 9 to 5: the musical, “La Fée” in Viardot’s Cendrillon, “Natalie” in Next to Normal, and “Jo March” in Little Women.. She played the role of “Scientologist” in the scene “Stuck” from Groundhog Day and was chosen as a finalist for the 2022 National Opera Association’s Musical Theatre Scenes Competition. She is an alumni of the Musiktheater Bavaria program where she received training in all styles of musical theater singing, dance and acting. She served as the Assistant Director of the University of Delaware Lyric Scenes Program where staged scenes ranging from contemporary musicals to operettas.
