Annual campus workday highlights summer renovations

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2023) — This morning, Milligan University faculty and staff assisted the physical plant staff with some final campus beautification efforts before students return to campus.

The university’s annual “Campus Workday” began with a continental breakfast before employees worked together to assist with landscaping, painting and cleaning. The day culminated with an employee lunch at noon.

“This tradition allows us to reunite as a community and prepare for our students’ return,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “It also provides the chance to say thank you to Milligan’s physical plant staff who work every day to make campus as beautiful as possible.”

This year’s workday revealed various construction and improvement projects completed or initiated this summer.

The Steve Lacy Fieldhouse’s exterior features new graphics and inside, a new gym floor has been installed. Additionally, locker rooms and the Buffalo Room have been renovated, and the Athletics Hall of Fame display is scheduled to be expanded and updated this fall. These improvements were made possible thanks to the financial support of Milligan alumni, friends and community partners.

Milligan will soon install artificial turf to the baseball and softball infields, thanks to a generous donation from baseball alumnus, John McKamey (’60). This improvement will greatly enhance the performance of the fields and ensure the continued success of Milligan’s baseball and softball programs. Additional baseball field improvements are planned thanks to the generosity of Board of Trustee member and alumni, Denny (’76) and Cindy Mayes (’79).

This summer, Milligan athletics ranked in the top 20 athletics programs across all college athletics divisions in Academic All America, selected by College Sports Communicators, ranking just ahead of the University of Tennessee. These athletics facilities improvements reflect the university’s commitment to supporting its student-athletes as they perform and achieve at the highest level.

Renovations have also been made to some of Milligan’s residence halls, academic buildings and athletics facilities, including multiple roofing, painting and carpeting projects.

Emmanuel Hill’s parking lots have been expanded and are scheduled to be paved to provide greater access to the university’s seminary, physician assistant studies program and engineering programs.

“The enhancements and improvements we’ve made on campus this summer are the result of careful planning throughout the school year,” said Greer. “We are grateful for the opportunity to implement these exciting changes. We believe they will create a welcoming campus for students and improve their ability to pursue excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field.”

Move-In Day for new students will occur on Saturday, Aug. 19, with classes beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
