Stacey Kastens joined Milligan’s faculty in the fall of 2021 as an assistant professor of social work
and also serves as the Program Director for Milligan Social Work. She holds a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Milligan (’88), where she double majored in Human Relations/Social Agencies and
Business Administration/Economics. In 1995, Stacey earned an MSSW from the University of
Louisville. She has over 20 years of experience as a social worker in several fields, including
developmental disabilities, mental health, home care, and medical social work. In addition to
direct practice experience, Ms. Kastens has management and leadership experience, including
leading teams and facilitating interdisciplinary care planning. She has taught and trained medical
students, social service staff, and community members. Working as a trainer for the University of
Kentucky, she helped to develop and implement a statewide training curriculum for providers of
services to those with developmental disabilities. Kastens has worked extensively throughout the
eastern United States, including New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Stacey resides with her husband, Dr. Ron Kastens (’89), in Johnson City. They have 3 adult
children, Brennan, Dallas, and Marlee (’24).
