Milligan hosts Youth in Ministry teen conference

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (July 20, 2003)-Teenagers from throughout the United States are on the Milligan College campus this week as Milligan hosts Youth in Ministry’s week-long summer conference, July 21-26.

“During The BIG PICTURE conference, high school juniors and seniors will seek answers to tough questions,” says Phyllis Fox, director of Youth in Ministry (YiM). “Many young people today are asking, ‘What will I do with my life?’ ‘What are my gifts and skills?’ ‘Where do I fit in the kingdom of God?’ and ‘Would God call me into full time ministry?’.”

Teens will be assisted in finding answers to these weighty questions through classes, prayer and worship services and hands-on ministry opportunities with local ministers who are working in churches and organizations.

Participants in the conference will be encouraged to develop relationships with other teens who are pursuing God’s call for their lives. Teens will spend time in small groups and will take part in recreational and cultural activities unique to East Tennessee. Special features of the conference include Appalachian storyteller Peggy Kenny and a mountain top worship experience at Roan Mountain.

“Our mission is for The BIG PICTURE to be a week that will change teens’ lives and help guide their futures,” says Fox.

Youth in Ministry (YiM) is a program that helps teens discover their vocational calling in life, considering Christian ministry in all its forms among their options. The program offers youth summits, workshops, and weeklong summer conferences that range from quick overviews to in-depth explorations for high school students to personalize a vision for their lives and see how they can make a difference in this world.

The program is a partnership of Emmanuel School of Religion, a graduate seminary, and Milligan College, a Christian liberal arts college, both located near Johnson City, Tennessee. YiM funding is provided by the Lilly Endowment of Indiana. For more information, visit www.youthinministry.org or call 423.975.8021.
