MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (February 16, 2017) — Milligan College’s annual Webb Lecture Series welcomes Rick Raines, senior minister at Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel.
Tuesday’s lecture is titled “The Hope of the World”; Thursday’s, “The Hope of the Church.” The lectures are free and open to the public. While visiting Milligan, Raines will meet with area ministers and church leaders.
Milligan’s Webb Lecture Series is named for Dr. Henry and the late Emerald Webb. Henry Webb was a professor of Bible at Milligan for more than 40 years.
“The Webb Lectures are a highlight for the region’s Christian churches and churches of Christ each year,” said Kit Dotson, director of church relations. “In addition, they are part of Milligan’s active relationship with the Stone-Campbell Movement and commitment to that heritage. We are grateful to the Webb family for their insight and generosity in making the Webb Lecture Series possible.”
Having served congregations in Kentucky and New York, Raines, a native of Richmond, Virginia, has been on staff at his home congregation of Fairmount Christian Church since 1997, serving as senior minister since 2006. In addition to his duties at Fairmount, he currently serves as president of Waypoint Church Partners, planting churches and serving congregations throughout Virginia and surrounding states. Raines graduated from Milligan College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts and from Southern Seminary in 1989 with a Master of Divinity. He also is a member and former chairman of Milligan’s Board of Advisors.
Raines and his wife of 30 years, Betsy, have two children, both Milligan alums: Erin (B.A. ’13), a current Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan student, and Matthew (B.S. ’12).
