MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2015) — Milligan College’s Adjunct Instructor of Music James Van Druten will present a faculty guitar recital on Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Walker Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel. The concert also will feature guitarist R.J. Wuagneux. The recital is free and open to the public.
Van Druten graduated from Stetson University (DeLand, Florida) with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar Performance in 2013. During his time at Stetson University, he was a member of the University’s Guitar Ensemble and received training under world-renowned guitarist Stephen Robinson. He is currently completing a Master of Music degree in guitar performance under Douglas James at Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina).
Throughout his music career, Van Druten has performed in master classes given by some of the world’s most distinguished guitarists, including Manuel Barrueco, Denis Azabagic, Rafael Padron and Stephen Aron. He also has won numerous awards in various guitar festivals and competitions.
His recital will feature music from a variety of countries and composers, including “Piper’s Pavan” by John Dowland, “Grand Sonata in A Major” by Niccolò Paganini, “Sonata, Op. 61” by Joaquín Turina, “Sonata K. 178” by Domenico Scarlatti, “36 Caprices, Op. 20” by Luigi Legnani, “Castillos de Espana” by Federico Moreno Torroba and “Fantasy Divisions” by Stephen Dodgson.
