Student photos featured by national magazine

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 21, 2002) — Photographer’s Forum has selected 10 Milligan students as finalists in the 22nd Annual Student Photography contest,sponsored by Nikon, USA. The students are Dinah DeFord, Jason Harville, Jara Henderson, Erin Hogshead, Lesley Jenkins, Aaron Johnston, Lauren Keister, Christan McKay, Tim Morton, Beth Pearson and Sara Small.

Lesley Jenkins also won an honorable mention award, one of only 110 prizes given in this year’s contest.

Photographer’s Forum received over 25,000 photographic entries from student photographers. All finalist photographs will be published in the Best of College Photography Annual 2002 in June.

“Our students compete against much more experienced photographers,” said Alice Anthony, assistant professor for the practice of art. “These awards are a tribute to their hard work and perseverance in striving for photographic excellence.”

Anthony said only 1,750 photographs were selected as finalists nationwide.

The Milligan finalists’ photographs will be exhibited Feb. 22- Feb. 29 in Ground Zero Gallery in the basement of Derthick Hall on the Milligan College campus.

Judges for this contest were: Jeff Atherton, chair of the photography department at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, Calif.; Beth Gates Warren, writer, curator, and appraiser of photography; and Armando Flores, Nikon Professional Services, Nikon USA.
