The political science major is designed for those who wish to understand politics, effectively engage the world around them, and make a difference. It prepares students to study law, work in government service, research, or teach in a school setting. The political science curriculum provides a broad foundation in the study of American political history, international relations, comparative politics, and political theory. Students may also choose to participate in the American Studies Program or to study abroad in consultation with their adviser.
Two concentrations are available:
- General â designed for those students who desire a broad foundation in all areas of politics
- International Politics â prepares students to engage political realities within the context of global studies
Political science majors at Milligan learn:
- A broad knowledge of American politics, international politics, comparative politics, and political theory
- Diverse methods to understand and analyze political institutions and political conflicts
- Preparation across the political science discipline for a wide range of careers, not limited to but including law school, graduate school, and government service
- An awareness of the roles and responsibilities of citizenship at the local, national, and international levels
