MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 1 1 , 2008) — Renowned author, speaker and frequent NPR commentator Frederica Mathewes-Green will speak at Milligan College on Mar. 19 and 20.
Mathewes-Green is a wide-ranging author whose work has appeared in such diverse publications as the “Washington Post,” “Christianity Today,” “Smithsonian,” “Los Angeles Times ” and the “Wall Street Journal.” She has authored eight books and numerous essays covering an assortment of topics, including Eastern Orthodox Christianity, “The Jesus Prayer,” the pro-life cause and much more. She is a regular columnist for the multifaith web magazine “Beliefnet.com” and has made appearances as a speaker over 400 times at such venues as Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Cornell, as well as the Washington National Cathedral, the American Academy of Religion and the National Right to Life Committee. She has been interviewed by CNN, Fox News, “USA Today” and more and frequently writes movie reviews for “National Review Online” and “Christianity Today Movies.”
Mathewes-Green holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in theological studies from Virginia Episcopal Seminary. She and her husband, the Rev. Gregory Mathewes-Green, live in Baltimore, Md., where he is a pastor and she is the “Mother” of the church they founded, Holy Cross Orthodox.
Mathewes-Green will speak at Milligan’s Wilson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 19, and again on Thursday, Mar. 20, at 11 a.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel. Both lectures are free and open to the public. She also will speak at a devotional breakfast Thursday morning at 7:15 a.m. in McCormick Dining Center located in Sutton Hall.
