MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 8, 2011) — Milligan College will celebrate Multicultural Appreciation Week 2011 with various arts and cultural events beginning Monday, Feb. 14. All events are open to the public.
“The intention of MCA Week is to showcase the various cultures that are represented both on campus and in the community around us,” said Ernesto Villarreal, Milligan’s director of diversity services. “We hope the students will learn and gain a sincere appreciation for their overall experience at Milligan.”
The week will kick off with a multicultural fine arts showcase titled “Fusion” on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts. The evening will include a fusion of music, drama, poetry and art performed by Milligan students.
On Tuesday Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., Milligan will host a a screening of “Invictus” in Milligan’s Hyder Auditorium, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Ruth Cook, professor of English and humanities at Milligan.
Students will celebrate Hispanic culture day on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Walker Auditorium, located in the lower level of Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel. Instructors will give salsa lessons from Latin American cultures to raise awareness and money for children in Mexico.
On Thursday, Feb. 17, students will host a festival of cultures from 5-7 p.m. in Milligan’s McCormick Dining Hall. Dinner will feature an international course, and festivities will include music, games and door prizes.
MCA Week will close with a night of multicultural worship led by churches from the community and Milligan students on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
