Milligan digital media student wins ADDY® Awards

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 2, 2011) — In a celebration honoring advertising’s finest work among professionals and students, Milligan College student Morgan Rutledge earned gold and silver ADDY® Awards for her work.

Every year the American Advertising Federation Northeast Tennessee hosts an awards ceremony for local ad agencies and designers. The Student ADDY® section includes 18 design categories that incorporate graphic design, digital video, photography and more.

Rutledge, a junior digital media student from Kingsport, Tenn., walked away with two gold awards for her photograph titled “Zebra” and her poster, “Share the Love.” She also received silver honors for her video, “Beauty,” and her logo design for the Stampede, Milligan’s student newspaper. Her logo was also chosen by Milligan as the new face of the print, TV and online Stampede publications.

“It was an honor to represent Milligan at the ceremony,” said Rutledge. “It was a great experience, and I would encourage other students to enter their work in future contests.”

Overall, the Milligan communications area entered 10 projects from six students. Other student entrants from Milligan included Mickey Brown, of Kingsport; Peter Nelson, of Gray, Tenn.; Jenna Swett, of Waynesboro, Va.; Heather Knudtsen, of Manila, Philippines; and Candace Schlaegel, of Lewis Center, Ohio.

“This is the first year the Milligan communications area has entered student work,” said Dr. Carrie Swanay, chair of the area of performing, visual and communicative arts. “But based on the results, this won’t be the last.”
