Understanding Acceptance Rates
There is no universal definition of how institutions calculate an acceptance rate for graduates entering medical school, nor are students under any obligation to report their MCAT, GRE, or ADAT scores or their graduate school admission status to their institution. It is a figure that is easily manipulated and not always the best measure of the strength of a program. Therefore, Milligan does not produce an acceptance rate for its graduates entering medical school but we do track and share where our graduates are heading because it communicates more details than a percentage.
What percentage of Milligan graduates are accepted?
What we do know is that 100% of our qualified graduates get accepted. In other words, if you excel in our program with a strong GPA, take advantage of opportunities provided by attending a smaller school (teaching assistant, independent research, tutoring, etc.), are able to complete our science program, and prepare for the MCAT using the knowledge base and skill sets that Milligan has instilled, then our graduates are always competitive.
Medical schools are looking for students who have the skillset and the experience to be a good doctor; it matters less the brand name of where they went to school and more how prepared they are. Milligan holistically prepares students to succeed after they graduate, and our track record proves this.

Can I Choose Any Major While Pursuing a Pre-Med Major?
Yes. Milligan’s Pre-Medicine program allows students to choose any major while fulfilling Pre-Med requirements. This flexibility enables students to align their undergraduate studies with their personal interests and talents while meeting the prerequisites for medical school.
While many Pre-Med students opt for science majors like Biology or Chemistry, Milligan encourages a well-rounded education. Non-science majors, such as those in the humanities or social sciences, are equally viable paths, as long as students complete required courses like organic chemistry, physics, and biology. The program supports students in exploring their passions while building a strong foundation in the sciences.
Advisers work closely with students to ensure they meet all pre-professional requirements, regardless of their major. This approach allows students to develop unique perspectives and skills that enhance their medical school applications. For example, a humanities major may bring strong communication and empathy skills, while a social science focus may provide insights into public health and healthcare policy.
By choosing a major that aligns with their interests, students can enjoy their undergraduate experience while developing the academic and personal qualities necessary for success in medical school.

Students may shadow physicians in specialties like pediatrics, internal medicine, or surgery, helping them refine their goals and better understand the nuances of medical practice.
In addition to shadowing, students may engage in volunteer work with underserved populations, providing valuable perspectives on social determinants of health and patient care. Milligan’s network of healthcare partners and local organizations offers diverse opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience.
