Curriculum

The online MEd integrates theory, action research, and reflective practice and is designed to increase both the quality and quantity of the educational experiences for teachers in professional education or those looking to other professional opportunities. Student outcomes are based on the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS).

The 36-hour program consists of a 24-credit hour core and 12 elective credits. Courses such as School Organization and Law, Assessment and Evaluation, Classroom Management, and Professional Teacher Standards are part of a core of classes designed to further develop and enhance your education skills.

Accreditation

Milligan is accredited by CAEP, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, which means your degree from Milligan is instantly recognized throughout the country for its quality. Research has shown that graduates from CAEP institutions significantly outperform those from other institutions on National Teacher Examinations.

The CAEP Annual Report Measures provides information on the Education Area’s performance in the following indicators: Impact on P-12 student learning, teacher effectiveness, employer satisfaction and employment milestones, completer satisfaction, graduation rates of candidates, undergraduate retention, ability of program completers to meet licensing requirements, employment and consumer information, and debt repayment.

Admission

START DATES: SUMMER, AUGUST, OR JANUARY

  1. BACCALAUREATE DEGREE (BA or BS) with a minimum overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
  2. ONE OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT from each college or university attended showing all credits previously earned.
  3. TWO COMPLETE REFERENCE FORMS from former supervisors and/or professional references who have adequate knowledge of the applicant’s Christian commitment and character and potential for success as a graduate student and professional educator. Reference requests are sent as part on the online application.
  4. COMPUTER COMPETENCY evidenced in rudimentary knowledge and experience in areas such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and internet searches.
  5. COMPLETED HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION RECORD You must complete and sign Page 1 (Sections A and B) of the immunization form. Online MEd students do NOT have to have to show proof of immunization (Section C).
  6. BRIEF INTERVIEW with Milligan faculty members, resulting in a positive recommendation (phone or video conference if out-of-town).
  7. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: This program is NOT approved by SEVIS to admit international students because the hybrid/online course delivery model does not meet the residency requirements for F-1 visa status.

Students who do not meet the above requirements may be admitted, under certain conditions, into the program conditionally.

Teacher Education Professional Recommendation

Students in this program are eligible to apply for state and federal tuition assistance programs and for employer reimbursement when applicable. Milligan University adopts specific rules on the basis of the belief that God’s Word, as the final rule of faith and practice, speaks on many matters pertaining to personal conduct. Therefore, behavior that conflicts with Scripture is unacceptable. Historically, communities also have developed guidelines that help put into practice basic moral and social principles. Such standards serve as a guide toward worthwhile goals relevant to one’s academic, spiritual, social, and physical well-being.
