MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 14, 2011) — Michael Miller will deliver a lecture titled “The Role of Business in Expanding God’s Kingdom” at Milligan College on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. It will be held in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel and is free and open to the public.
The lecture is in honor of Milligan’s 15th president, Dr. Bill Greer, and is part of a week of special events leading up to Greer’s inauguration ceremony on Friday, Oct. 28. Immediately following the lecture, Miller will speak again at a luncheon for civic leaders on Milligan’s Mary Sword Campus Commons. Reservations for the noon luncheon are required by Monday, Oct. 17.
Miller is a research fellow and director of Acton Media at the Acton Institute, a nonprofit, ecumenical think tank that works internationally “to promote a free and virtuous society characterized by individual liberty and sustained by religious principles.” Much of Miller’s current work at Acton involves leading PovertyCure, which promotes entrepreneurial solutions to poverty in the developing world.
“As an economist, I appreciate the work Mr. Miller and PovertyCure are doing to help unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of the developing world,” said Greer, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
With 10 years of international experience, Miller has lived and traveled in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. He lectures internationally on such themes as moral philosophy, economic development, social theory and entrepreneurship.
He is a frequent guest on radio programs and has been published in the Washington Times, The Detroit News, The LA Daily News and Real Clear Politics. He has appeared in various video curricula including Doing the Right Thing, Effective Stewardship and the Birth of Freedom.
Before coming to Acton, Miller spent three years at Ave Maria College of the Americas in Nicaragua where he taught philosophy and political science and was the chair of the philosophy and theology department. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. from Nagoya University’s Graduate School of International Development (Japan), an M.A. in philosophy from Franciscan University, and an M.B.A. in international management from Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Business.
He serves on the board of the Dietrich von Hildebrand Legacy Project and the President’s Advisory Council of Aquinas College in Nashville.
