Hongyou Lu
Assistant Professor for East Asian Studies and Engineering Program Development Associate
Hongyou Lu serves as an Engineering Program Development Associate and Assistant Professor at Milligan University. She played a pivotal role in supporting the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) accreditation process for both the mechanical and electrical engineering programs, which received full accreditation with no deficiencies, weaknesses, or concerns. The accreditation process also highlighted the university’s institutional strengths and the quality of its engineering programs.
Hongyou’s research focuses on engineering fundamentals, industrial energy modeling, and energy-intensive sectors. She has contributed significantly to the field of industrial decarbonization, co-authoring several influential studies, including Industry Decarbonization Roadmaps for Indonesia: Opportunities and Challenges to Net-Zero Emissions (2024) and Clean Industry in China: A Techno-Economic Comparison of Electrified Heat Technologies, Barriers, and Policy Options (2024).
She attends Jefferson City Christian Church in Jefferson City, TN, where she has formed some of her closest friendships in the U.S. The Agape Sunday School class she participated in was the most enjoyable and fulfilling class she has experienced. Despite facing many hardships, the members of the class are kind, generous, and fun-loving, and they warmly welcomed her with open arms.
Some of Hongyou’s favorite parts of her role at Milligan are supporting the development of hands-on engineering projects to solve challenges in the real world and making an impact in local communities.
