John Jackson

Associate Professor of Bible and Humanities

Faculty Office Center, 111

Dr. John Jackson is Associate Professor of Bible and Humanities, where he teaches two of Milligan’s foundational courses, “God’s Story in the Old Testament” and “God’s Story in the New Testament.” He also teaches upper-level Old Testament courses and elementary Greek. His research focuses on Hebrew poetry and the Book of Psalms, along with the Wisdom Literature and the Prophets.

Dr. Jackson regularly contributes papers to the Hebrew Poetry Section of the Annual Meeting of the Catholic Biblical Association. He is currently working on a relational theology of the Old Testament, “Divine Invitation,” and a book on the Gospels as a follow-up that will show how the themes of the Old Testament carry through in God’s work in Jesus as described in the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament.

At Milligan, Dr. Jackson finds great fulfillment in serving as a mentor to freshman, being Chair of the Undergraduate Admissions Committee, supervising the Faculty Office Building, and serving as the announcer for Milligan’s women’s basketball games. Dr. Jackson particularly enjoys working with students who are enthusiastic, full of life, and are learning how to grow into themselves. The ability to witness and share in students’ intellectual, social, and spiritual growth remains one of Dr. Jackson’s greatest joys.
Dr. Jackson’s personal faith journey has played an integral role in shaping his academic and professional life. Having lived his adult life across the country from biological family, he and his wife, Mary, have found family within their church community. God has blessed them to be part of wonderful churches who have been family to him, his wife, and children. His faith journey reflects that life in the community is the heart of our Christian identity.
