Dr. Heather Hoover is the George and Janet Arnold Chair of the Humanities, Director of the Master of Arts in Humanities, Director of Writing, and Professor of English and Composition at Milligan University. Her research and academic expertise include modern American poetry, composition pedagogy, 20th century American literature, ecocriticism, ecofeminism, and feminist theory.

Dr. Hoover’s notable achievements at Milligan include designing and continuing to administrate the university’s composition curriculum. She is the author of the book, Composition as Conversation: Seven Virtues for Effective Writing, and two poetry chapbooks, If Moon, Then Yes and Strong Female Protagonist.

At Milligan, Dr. Hoover particularly enjoys observing the dynamics of discovery for her students within the classroom. This process of discovery has played an integral role in Hoover’s faith, as she credits Mary Oliver’s poetry with shaping her personal faith journey, particularly the poem, “Praying.”
