Art Brown

Associate Professor of Graphic Design

Art Brown is an Associate Professor at Milligan University, where he directs the graphic design program he founded. His students regularly win local and regional advertising awards and secure prestigious internships and graduate school acceptances throughout the country and abroad.

In addition to his teaching, Prof. Brown is an award-winning graphic designer and artist with over 25 years of work experience in corporate and higher-education settings. His design work has earned numerous American Advertising Awards, and he has worked for clients such as Disney, Eastman Chemical Company, Bristol Motor Speedway, Bank of Tennessee, and multiple tourism associations across Southern Appalachia. His work was also published as part of the LogoLounge: International Identities by Leading Designers series of books by Rockport Publishers.

As a working artist, Brown’s work has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Two Rivers, WI; the Waterfront Artists Coalition Gallery in Brooklyn, NY; Linus Galleries in LA; and the Frederick Layton Gallery at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. He has also exhibited his work at venues such as the FL3TCH3R Exhibit at Reece Museum in Johnson City, TN; John B. Aird Gallery in Toronto, ON; and Artspace in Raleigh, NC, among others. His artwork has been published in The HAND: A Magazine for Reproductive-Based Art and Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art & Design. Additionally, Brown’s work has been included in the Swedish book Historiska Katter by author Erik Fichtelius.
