MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 14, 2026) – Milligan University freshman Vaughn De La Cruz will represent WUMC, Milligan’s award-winning student radio station, on “WVYL: Vinyl Radio,” a national stream hosted by the College Radio Foundation.
WUMC DJ De La Cruz, a freshman from Chuckey, Tennessee, will perform his show “Blast From the Past” which features records from his personal collection with music produced from the 1950s to 1970s.
De La Cruz’s hour-long show will play on Thursday, April 16, from 2 to 3 p.m. on “WVYL: Vinyl Radio” streaming at live365.com.
De La Cruz says his show “will focus on the timeless sound of that era, bringing together songs that reflect the roots and evolution of modern popular music.”
De La Cruz will be joined on “WVYL: Vinyl Radio” by other local radio personalities Izzy, Wade Hill and Chantil from the morning show on Electric 94.9, the region’s top 40 radio station.
“WVYL: Vinyl Radio” is part of the College Radio Foundation’s weeklong programming leading up to Vinylthon, which coincides with Record Store Day, on Saturday, April 18. The foundation is hosting the event to raise money for “Fueling Radio’s Future,” a campaign which raises funding for scholarships for students seeking careers in the radio industry.
The College Radio Foundation describes “WVYL: Vinyl Radio” as a “pop-up station that blends legendary voices, iconic music and the very best of radio into a one-of-a-kind listening experience.”
Even as a freshman, De La Cruz has stayed busy at Milligan. He is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and is a member of the Milligan men’s baseball team. He also appreciates the platform WUMC provides for sharing one of his passions.
“Radio is important to me because of my love for music,” said De La Cruz. “Listening to and sharing music has always been something meaningful in my life, and radio provides a simple and powerful way to experience it.”
