Milligan prepares for students’ arrival with annual Campus Workday

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Aug. 16, 2024) — This morning, Milligan University faculty and staff assisted the physical plant staff with some final enhancements to campus before students return.

The university’s annual “Campus Workday” began with a continental breakfast before employees worked together to assist with landscaping, painting and cleaning. The day culminated with an employee lunch at noon.

For Milligan President Dr. Stephen Waers, Campus Workday marks his first campus-wide event after assuming office on August 1.

“I can’t think of a better way to begin another year of preparing students to be servant-leaders than to engage in acts of service on behalf of our students,” said Waers. “As a community, we seek to model our mission and values in everything we do. Our physical plant team works tirelessly all year to make sure our campus mirrors the beauty of the mountains that surround us, and we are happy to join them in that work.”

This year’s workday also highlights several renovation and improvement projects completed this summer.

The largest renovation project involved installing a new roof, gutters and downspout replacements at the B.D. Phillips Memorial Building on Emmanuel Hill. Technological and audiovisual improvements were made to Seeger Chapel to enhance the student worship experience. In addition, several locker rooms and offices were renovated in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

All Milligan dormitories now feature electronic access control systems to manage entry to the buildings, and multiple campus apartments were converted to undergraduate housing to accommodate Milligan’s increased enrollment.

As requested by Milligan’s SGA, additional bike racks were added around Derthick Hall and the Student Union Building.

Move-In Day for new students will occur on Saturday, Aug. 24, with classes beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
