MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 23, 2024) — Milligan University will hold its spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, April 27, in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel. A total of 250 degrees will be awarded, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
The Fide et Amore, Milligan’s highest acknowledgement of service, will be awarded to Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer and First Lady Edwina Greer.
The 10 a.m. commencement ceremony will honor 140 graduates of the School of Arts and Humanities, School of Bible and Ministry, and the William B. Greene, Jr., School of Business and Technology.
Five graduating students will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony: Marius Grytdal, of Moss, Norway, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration; Laurel Guy, of Johnson City, TN, receiving a master’s degree in divinity; Samuel Guy, of Johnson City, earning a master’s degree in divinity; Gabrielle Hammond, of Naperville, IL, receiving a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics; and Evan Magness, of Johnson City, earning a bachelor’s degree in biblical and theological studies and the humanities.
The 2 p.m. commencement ceremony will honor 110 graduates of the School of Sciences and Allied Health and the School of Social Sciences and Education.
Five graduating students will speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony: Madison Dykes, of Kingsport, TN, earning a master’s degree in counseling; Caden Heupel, of Cookeville, TN, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing; Justin Pettit, of Johnson City, earning a master’s degree in physician assistant studies; Jared Richards, of Lake Wales, FL, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science; and Madeline Runnels, of Gray, TN, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Milligan will present its Fide et Amore award to Bill and Edwina Greer, honoring their loving and faithful dedication to the university and its students. Greer has served Milligan for over 30 years and was named the university’s 15th president in 2011. Under his leadership and with Edwina’s gracious support as first lady, Milligan has experienced record enrollment, increased national rankings and reached new levels of excellence in athletics.
During Greer’s presidency, Emmanuel Christian Seminary became part of Milligan, and in 2020, Milligan College was renamed Milligan University. The university added undergraduate majors in electrical and mechanical engineering and a graduate program in physician assistant studies, among other new programs. The university’s endowment has grown significantly under Greer’s guidance, and the university’s long-term financial security has been solidified. Greer will retire this summer and has been appointed chancellor to the university to support important external relationships.
