MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Aug. 17, 2023) — Milligan University will welcome new and returning students to campus this weekend, Aug. 18-20.
“We are excited to welcome the Class of 2027, one of our largest incoming classes in history,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “We are especially thankful for the people behind that number—our students who are preparing for lives of service and our faculty and staff who care about our students and work hard to help them achieve their goals.”
Upon arrival, new students and families will be greeted by a balloon arch, Milligan’s spirit team, the university president and returning students. Each year, the Milligan community strives to make each student immediately feel at home.
Move-in day also kicks off Milligan’s annual Welcome Week, a tradition which highlights the university’s core tenets of scholarship, community and faith.
On Saturday evening, new students will formally mark the start of their academic journey during the university’s Matriculation ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 7:45 p.m. in Seeger Chapel followed by a dessert reception.
Throughout the week, all students can participate in a variety of activities aimed at helping students get involved and feel supported on campus.
“Welcome Week activities are more than just introductory events; they are the foundation upon which we build our campus community,” said Brealle Davis, director of campus activities, interim campus minister and resident director of Hart Hall. “These activities are designed to foster a sense of belonging, unity and shared purpose among students. I encourage every student to actively participate and seize the opportunity to not only engage with old and new Milligan traditions, but also to forge lasting friendships and memories.”
The week will include a cookout, corn hole tournament, drive-in movie, bubble soccer and a block party. New students will also dine with their mentor groups, consisting of a small cohort of students and a faculty member, that will meet throughout the semester.
Before students arrive, Milligan faculty and staff will gather on the university’s Mary Sword Commons to pray for students and the upcoming academic year. During Welcome Week, the entire Milligan community will return to the commons to worship together for the first time.
While chapel services occur in Seeger Chapel, this year’s first chapel will take place outside on Thursday, Aug. 24. President Greer will be the speaker, offering his last opening chapel before he retires at the end of this academic year. Chapel occurs each Thursday and provides students the opportunity to worship and connect their studies to their faith.
