MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2023) — On the Tennessee State Board of Education’s annual report card, Milligan University emerged as one of the highest performing educator preparation programs in the state. Milligan’s Initial Teacher Licensure program met or exceeded expectations in each of the various areas assessed, and Milligan attained a 100% pass rate on the pedagogical Praxis exam.
“Milligan’s results on the state’s report card reflect the hard work of both our faculty and students,” shared Dr. Angela Hilton-Prillhart, associate dean of the school of social sciences and education. “The results also indicate our graduates’ high level of competence with content and preparation, as well as their ability to successfully meet the expectations of the school districts that employ them.”
The State Board of Education measures employment, candidate assessment and candidate profile on its report card. Milligan’s graduates continue to exceed the state average in employee retention in Tennessee’s schools and exceeded the state’s candidate assessment pofile, which evaluates a program’s ability to prepare candidates to pass the pedagogical and content-area assessments required for a Tennessee teaching license. Milligan also met the state’s expectations for candidate profile, an area that evaluates a program’s ability to recruit a strong, diverse cohort and prepare them to teach in content areas with the greatest teaching need.
The university’s strong results from the Tennessee’s State Board of Education follow Milligan’s selection by The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) as one of 32 educator preparation providers to receive the 2022 Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for leadership and commitment to continuous improvement in teacher preparation.
Milligan’s teacher education programs emphasize first-hand experience in k-12 classrooms, exposing candidates to local schools in their first semester. This emphasis on field experience allows students to gain practical, hands-on experience to strengthen and connect to their academic preparation.
