MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 20, 2020) – Today, Milligan College administration announced that its transition to remote learning will be extended through the end of the spring semester. The decision was made in response to the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and with a desire to act in the best interests of all members of the Milligan community.
As of Friday, March 20, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Milligan’s campus. However, the developments in recent days and the guidance of government and public health authorities have led Milligan’s leaders to the conclusion that substantial changes to the college’s operations for the remainder of the semester must happen.
“This decision is not easy due to the operational implications and logistics, but what is easy is the decision to put the health and safety of our college community first,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “As we face the challenges brought about by this situation together, I am encouraged to be a part of the Milligan community where such challenges are addressed with grace, compassion and unity of spirit.”
The college will provide information to residential students next week about how and when students can return to campus to collect their belongings. Students will have to sign up for a designated time to do so and follow clear distancing guidelines. Campus is otherwise closed, and students will not be allowed on campus until their designated time.
Many Milligan employees began working remotely yesterday and will continue to do so until further notice.
All college-sponsored events requiring a physical meeting are cancelled for the remainder of the semester. Events that can be delivered remotely may continue. Milligan’s campus remains closed to external visitors and guests.
