MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 29, 2020) — Milligan College Vice President for Athletics and Student Development Mark Fox announced Wednesday the addition of a disc golf team beginning fall 2020.
“We are excited to offer students the opportunity to participate in disc golf at the collegiate level,” said Fox. “With a nine-hole course on Milligan’s campus, this program provides another competitive outlet for our students.”
Milligan’s disc golf team will be open to students across academic disciplines, and scholarships will be available to incoming students.
“I’m pleased to welcome Timothy Barr to lead this program,” said Fox. “He has been heavily involved in bringing competitive disc golf competitions to this region, and I am excited that he will bring his experience and passion to Milligan.”
Timothy Barr will serve as the director of the disc golf team. Barr has over 30 years of experience with disc golf and has been instrumental in bringing major tournaments to the region. As a tournament director, Barr has hosted 65 professionally sanctioned events, including the 2017 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship and the upcoming Professional Masters World Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee. As a competitor, Barr has won 81 professionally sanctioned events.
“Our area is blessed with several amazing disc golf courses and top-level players,” said Barr. “I look forward to creating a team at Milligan and developing students’ skills in an environment that focuses on fun, camaraderie and competitiveness.”
